This is the story of our journey from Phuket to Koh Samui to find the villa of our dreams
The Road Much Travelled Part 2 : We visited the site in Koh Samui and sat under the coconut trees in the centre of our marked out site. The view was stunning and it all felt right. This was the beginning of a four year journey to completion of KARMA SAMUI VILLA 14.

ALL WHITE!
be bold and create the White Villa
We had similar ideas on what we liked and what would suit the stunning position we now had with views of the sea from all rooms. It was at this point that we decided to be bold and create the White Villa. Many people thought we were crazy as we also intended to rent when not in residence.
The kitchen was included in the purchase price but as it was dark brown we took the decision to put our own kitchen in and make it ALL WHITE!
We enjoy cooking and wanted an easy to manoeuvre open plan and stylised area, which would blend seamlessly into the lounge/dining area.
Adrian always wanted a Miele coffee machine and we had other ideas for the kitchen appliances e.g. we wanted a steamer instead of a microwave.
We managed to find a kitchen specialist in Bangkok that supplied Italian kitchens, which we wanted. We worked with Binova kitchens and produced plans to suit us.
Eighteen months later when our villa was built, it was all shipped from Italy to Samui and looks great in situ, a big relief, I can tell you.
We decided to choose white marble floor tiles for the living/dining area and the bathrooms. This was daring at the time and we thought we might have to wear sunglasses!

The white theme has extended to our choice of furniture - all Italian designed, which gives a really fresh, light and modern feel. However, we wanted to ensure that the chairs and sofa were also super comfortable.
We made the most of the dining area, close to the kitchen, where there are sliding doors to allow for an indoor outdoor feel and the sea view is breathtaking - we spend a lot of time sitting here chatting and drinking coffee from our built-in Miele coffee machine and our friends love it.

The living space has a peaceful feel where one can just sit and read (again with an amazing view) or chill and watch one’s favourite DVD on the large 40” flat screen B&O TV.
It was at this point that Adrian scrutinised the plans and we managed to change the position of the pool and sala and to extend the balcony outside the master bedroom.
Lighting is hugely important to us and we were very lucky to acquire some wonderful designer pieces from our friends at Le Cadre Gallery in Hong Kong - more about them later.
Over the years, we have come to the conclusion that our best holidays also consisted of a very comfortable bed. Early on, we decided to splash out on some serious designer beds and mattresses. Most people visiting have a hectic work schedule and appreciate their good sleep, waking up refreshed and to stunning views of Koh Matlang.
People also enjoy some time out of the midday sun reading or listening to music and we decided the guest bedroom could be this space during the day. To this end, we chose an Edra piece of furniture in white leather, which can be a banquette, a chaise and a really comfortable queen size bed at night.
Talking of beds, the day bed area on the terrace next to the pool, in aquamarine coloured mattresses and cushions, is another place to chill out. It is also the perfect place to have your Thai massage whilst enjoying the sea breeze.
